Pet Parents

Thank you!
So you just adopted a dog or cat from a local shelter? With one amazing gesture, you’ve not only rescued a homeless animal from an uncertain future but you’ve also done your part to battle a serious pet overpopulation problem. Now it’s time to start your new life together and this calls for a celebration!
Thanks to warm-hearted people like you, millions of dogs and cats have managed to find their way from the shelter or the streets to safe, loving homes. Unfortunately, however, about one in four adopted dogs and one in seven adopted cats ultimately end up back at the shelter, searching for new homes. At the New Parent Guide, our mission is not so much to help dogs and cats find good homes, but to help keep them in good homes once they are there.
To that end, the New Parent Guide is dedicated to providing pet “parents” the information and guidance they need to forge and nurture a loving, long-lasting bond with their new dog or cat. As the guardian for a dog or cat, you’re in for a great ride! Nothing compares to the bond between pets and people, but amid the good times, comes responsibility. Your dog or cat has needs and is depending on you to meet those needs.
Enter the New Parent Guide. In the magazine and on this website, you’ll find a wealth of practical information and expert advice on most major facets of your pet’s life. And since all of the information has been written and reviewed by some of the most knowledgeable and experienced voices in the companion animal field, you can be confident it’s insightful, accurate, up-to-date and – most importantly for your pet – humane.
Our sincerest thanks for adopting a shelter animal and best wishes for the future! Trust us, the best is yet to come!
